Sarah explains why her whole family use Orchard Dental

Orthodontic dentistry is concerned with the growth and positioning of teeth in your jaw. We are pleased to have the specialist orthodontist Gareth Williams on board as part of the Orchard Dental team, which means we are able to offer this specialist field of dentistry in house as part of your ongoing continuity of care.

Straightening your teeth can improve your bite, the way your teeth function, and – most importantly for most people – your appearance.

What’s not often emphasised enough is that straighter teeth make a significant difference to your long term oral health because they are easier to keep clean and therefore less likely to suffer decay and gum disease, which is the biggest cause of tooth loss.

A good bite with teeth that properly fit together also protects muscles in the jaw and mouth and can prevent the onset of headaches and neck pain, which can result from a poor bite. Finally, straighter teeth prevent excessive wearing of tooth enamel, which is irreversible.

Proper alignment of your teeth and bite ensures that the pressure is balanced on all teeth when chewing, protecting the joints in the jaw.

At Orchard Dental we use a range of conventional and cosmetic orthodontic systems such as Invisalign and ceramic braces to move teeth in different ways.

Clear aligners like Invisalign are less noticeable in the mouth, which can appeal to people who want to look their best throughout treatment, and ceramic braces use the same proven technology as fixed braces but with more discreet materials.

A great deal of preparatory work goes into orthodontic treatment, and this begins at the initial consultation. We tailor every assessment to suit each patient, and use the latest technology to ensure we create a truly personalised treatment plan. For example, for some patients, it is necessary to take a very detailed look at their mouth, so we can use our 3D scanner to create a three dimensional picture that will help to inform our treatment decisions.

Part of our responsibility is to leave your teeth in a stable position at the end of treatment, protecting you from the risk of a relapse and the need for further treatment.
