Tooth Whitening

One of the most common complaints among adults with regards to their appearance is the colour of their teeth. According to the Oral Health Foundation, about half the population (48%) are unhappy with their teeth, with discolouration the most common reason.

Tooth whitening is a non-invasive, low impact way of rejuvenating your smile. Having said that it is possible to buy cheap, over the counter whitening kits, and the ingredients contain potentially harmful chemicals, so for your safety we recommend only undergoing whitening under professional supervision.

Tooth whitening removes stains caused by ageing and lifestyle and lightens the natural shade of your teeth. We offer two types of treatment programmes depending on the severity of the discolouration. Whitening can be done in the dental surgery or using ‘at home’ whitening trays. As with all treatments, we will first need to check that your mouth is healthy and free of any gum disease or decay.

In surgery whitening

In surgery whitening is a fantastic option if you need your teeth looking at their sparkling best in a short space of time. In our practice we can apply a powerful whitening gel and laser light which activates the gel for faster effects.

At Home whitening trays

At Home whitening allows you all the comfort of gradual treatment at home. We will make you a bespoke plastic tooth tray which you will need to wear periodically, usually at night time, for a few weeks.

The tray is precision made to fit your mouth comfortably. The prescribed whitening gel that you will put into the tray each night is harmless to the teeth but can damage your gums if it leaks. This is why it is so important to have a custom fitted tray rather than a cheap over the counter product that won’t fit you properly. If you follow the instructions we give you carefully you can expect remarkable changes in short order.

Neither at home whitening or in surgery whitening are a permanent fix for discoloured teeth, but they do offer a reliable and low risk way to look fresher and both can be repeated regularly under our supervision.
